Summary of Saltwater Pool Disinfection
Operating Principle and Processes
- Salinity: Pure table salt must be dissolved in the pool water to reach a concentration of 4 g/l.
- Electrolysis: The cells break down the saltwater using electrical current, resulting in the formation of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and hydrogen gas.
- Disinfection: Sodium hypochlorite purifies the water by breaking down organic matter.
- Cycle: At the end of the reaction, the salt converts back, meaning the salt content is not depleted, and disinfection continues even after the filtration system stops.
- Free Chlorine Level: A continuous free chlorine level of 0.5–1.0 mg/l can be maintained.
Conditions for Effective Operation
- pH Level: Maintaining it between 7.2 – 7.4.
- Salinity: Ensuring a stable level of 4 g/l.
- Equipment: A filtration and circulation system properly sized for the pool's volume and load.
- Cycle Times: Strictly adhering to the required filtration and circulation times.
