To keep the pool water sterile, chlorine is most commonly used. By maintaining the correct chlorine level, disinfection is very effective and reliable. It is recommended to check the free chlorine content and the pH value of the pool water twice a week.
Why is it important to check the pH value even in private pools? The effectiveness of disinfectants (e.g., chlorine) and other water treatment chemicals is highest at a pH value of 7.2–7.6. However, keeping it in this range is also important because above a pH of 7.8, unpleasant, irritating compounds are formed and calcification increases.
